Introduction
Welcome to my blog! My name is Ishkara Heqwabti, and as a sound mystic and singer-songwriter, I’ve spent years exploring the profound intersection of music and spirituality. In this post, I’ll take you on a journey through my experiences, showcasing how the melodies and rhythms that have shaped my life also serve as powerful tools for healing and spiritual connection.
The Early Years: Discovering the Power of Music
From an early age, music was more than just a form of entertainment for me; it was a way to connect with the world around me, express what's inside, and escape the material world. Being born clairaudient, with a sensitivity to tones and melodies in nature, I was able to transmute what I heard in the air and my heart through my voice. I began singing the usual way, imitating the songs my family played around me. My parents quickly noticed my ability to sing in tune with the melodies even before I could articulate the lyrics. Recognizing this, they considered it a gift and nurtured it by providing me with instruments and involving me in music lessons, choirs, recitals, and talent competitions. At age five I began spending more time with my grandparents who played a major role in raising me. My father's father was a self-taught virtuoso, highly skilled in Piano, Banjo, Accordion, Congas, Harmonica, and Organ. So were his father and brothers. Every Sunday afternoon, he'd hook up his amp and play on our front porch for the community. Sometimes he'd invite me to sing a hymn or two. He never really had to teach me, but by just watching him I could somehow pick up his instruments and play them, no problem, and he'd give me tips to be better. These formative experiences not only deepened my connection to music but also opened the door to my inner world of spiritual exploration through sound. I began to notice I'd be taken away by the sounds. I vividly remember the first time I performed on stage— the rush of energy that flowed through me as I shared my voice with others and the energetic release I witnessed from the audience. It was in those moments that I began to understand how music could transcend the physical realm and touch the spirit.

The Path to Sound Healing
My journey into sound healing began with my experience while singing. I noticed my voice and energy were different whenever I performed popular music. It was mundane and ineffective. I decided I only wanted to sing to heal people, not to entertain them, and that inspired my desire to understand the deeper impact of music. In college I immersed myself in music studies, learning about sound frequencies, sound design, indigenous musical systems, the effects of sound on matter, the effects of language, the effects of different instruments, and how they resonate with our energy centers. Along the way, I had the privilege of working with mentors who guided me in harnessing the healing potential of sound, ultimately leading me to embrace sound therapy as a vocation.
The Spiritual Connection
Music possesses the unique ability to connect us with our inner selves and the Universe. Through my practice, I’ve discovered that sound can be a powerful tool for healing, helping individuals release emotions, reduce stress, and access higher states of consciousness. Each time I facilitate a sound healing session, I witness how the vibrations of my voice, crystal singing bowls and other instruments can create a sacred space for spiritual exploration and transformation.
Benefits of Sound Healing
The benefits of sound healing are vast. Many clients have shared their experiences of finding clarity, releasing trauma, and experiencing profound journeys and peace during my sessions. Sound healing promotes relaxation, enhances mental clarity, and fosters a deeper connection to one’s spiritual self. These transformational experiences inspire me to continue my work and share this deep practice with others.
Practical Tips for Incorporating Sound into Daily Life
You don’t need to be a professional sound healer to incorporate sound into your spiritual practice. Here are some simple ways to get started:
- Listen to Healing Frequencies: Explore my music designed for relaxation and healing. Frequencies like 432 Hz promote harmony.
- Use Singing Bowls: Invest in a crystal singing bowl and practice using it for meditation or to create a calming atmosphere in your home.
-
Engage in Mindful Listening: Take a moment each day to sit quietly and listen to music, focusing on how it makes you feel and what emotions arise.
Experiment with these practices and see how sound can enrich your spiritual journey.
